January Late Winter Spring May June July 8 July 9 August September October November December

January

Jamie and Claire remain at the Abbey where Jamie is recovering from his wounds at the hands of Black Jack Randall. Jamie surprises her with a trip to a hot spring below the Abbey. Following this hot bath, Claire tells Jamie that she also has a surprise for him. (She is pregnant.)

Late Winter

Claire, now experiencing morning sickness from her preganancy, and Jamie leave the abbey to go to Paris where Charles Stuart has now arrived from Rome. Jamie plans to involve himself with his cousin Jared as well as work with Claire to stop Bonnie Prince Charlie. Jared offers Jamie a house with a staff in Paris to use while he is running that end of Jared's business.

While at the port of Le Havre, they have their first encounter with Le Comte St. Germain. Claire discovers his ship's sailors have the pox. She soon discovers how bad and dangerous the Comte's reputation is (although she knew his name from before as Geillis' had his grimoire).

Once in Paris, Jamie is asked to attend the King's lever and they both find out more about Royal activities. Claire becomes friends with Louise de la Tour, who is Prince Charlie's secret mistress. Jared also introduces Jamie to the Prince who is staying in Montmontre.

Claire meets Mary Hawkins who has arrived in Paris for an arranged marriage. (Although Claire knows she is to marry Jack Randall according to history.) Claire also meets Master Raymond who runs an apothecary shop in Paris.

Alexander Randall arrives in Paris. His appearance shocks Jamie because of the likeness to his brother Jack. Mary Hawkins soon meets Alex and becomes enamored of him.

Spring

Claire learns of L'Hopital des Anges and goes there to volunteer her services as a healer (against Jamie's wishes although he does not stop her). Claire becomes friends with Mother Hildegard who runs the hospital.

Jamie brings Fergus, a young pickpocket, into his employ to steal letters meant for the Prince. Jamie and Claire try to use their proximity to the Stuart (and his mail) to stop the coming Rising. Mother Hildegarde even helps them break a code that has been written into a musical score.

May

Claire and Mary Hawkins are attacked in the streeets of Paris. Murtagh, who is with them, is knocked unconscious. Mary is raped by a man with an odd scar on his hand and a mask on his face. Claire is also attacked, but not raped. Fergus runs off to get help.

One of the attackers suddenly recognizes Claire as La Dame Blanche. The attackers run away in fear.

As a result of this, Mary has been traumatized and shamed and her uncle will no longer be able to have her follow through with the arranged marriage.

June

Claire and Jamie are at the Duke of Sandringham's rented Paris house when they make a startling discovery. Jack Randall is still alive.

Dougal MacKenzie arrives in Paris to conduct fundraising activities for the Jacobite cause. Dougal helps Claire prevent a duel (for Frank's sake) between Randall and Jamie by testifying that Randall was Mary Hawkins rapist.

Jamie tells Claire that he must go through with a duel with Randall or she must kill him on the spot. It's either him or Frank.

In an effort to prevent the Comte St. Germain (his business rival) from receiving a shipment from Portugal, Jamie and Murtagh plan to fake an outbreak of the pox on the Comte's ship. Their plan is also to ruin the Stuart's credit so that he is unable to get a bank loan to finance a Rising.

Summer

As Claire's pregnancy continues into her second trimester, she is troubled by several episodes of bleeding and discontinues her work at L'Hopital des Anges.

Jamie arranges to duel Randall in the Bois de Boulogne, a popular dueling area near Paris. Claire goes to try and stop the duel and it is there that she begins to bleed heavily and miscarry the baby.

Claire is taken to the L'Hopital des Anges so that Mother Hildegarde may care for her. The baby is stillborn, a little girl. Mother Hildegarde has Claire see the baby so that she can accept the reality of it. The baby is baptised with the name Faith and buried in the hospital's graveyard (with the sisters and those that they love). Claire suffers from childbed fever following this and is healed (seceretly) by Master Raymond.

After Claire leaves the hospital, Louise de la Tour takes her to her country home, Fountainebleau, to continue her recovery. Claire, who has neither seen nor heard from Jamie since the duel, discovers that he is in the Bastille. Claire has an audience with the King in order to get Jamie out as he is due to go on the ship to Portugal (to continue their activities to stop the Rising).

July 8

King Louis has Claire act as a judge in a most unusual private trial. Le Comte St. Germain and Master Raymond are accused of sorcery. Since Claire is known as La Dame Blanche, she is asked to decide their fate. Raymond suggests a test of drinking poison (himself, Germain, amd Claire). Claire and Raymond are unharmed, but Germain dies.

Claire is also forced to go to bed with the King as part of the bargain for Jamie's release. She never tells Jamie about this. The bargain included Jamie's release and an arranged pardon that would allow them to return to Scotland. (Jamie must leave France by mid-September.)

July 9

Claire returns from her evening at the palace and discovers the real reason for the duel: Fergus was buggered and branded by Randall.

August

Jamie and Claire are reunited. She tells him about the baby and he tells her that he had been led to believe she was (or would be) dead. He also tells her of the success of his voyage to Portugal (and the fake small pox).

September

Jamie and Claire return to Lallybroch accompanied by Fergus and Murtagh.

October

Jamie and Claire settle back into life at Lallybroch. They receive word that Louise de la Tour has given birth to a son, Henri (the bastard son of Charles Stuart).

November

They receive communication from Charles Stuart regarding his grandiose plans and from the Earl of Mar describing the Prince's wild behavior.

The first potato crop is harvested successfully at Lallybroch. The tenants adjust to their new food staple.

December

While away from the farm, Ian has a mishap. He breaks his wooden leg. Jamie and Ian stop to rest in a cottage. Ian accidently touches Jamie in his sleep and Jamie reacts badly due to his experiences with Randall. Jamie punches Ian as a reflex. Later, he confides in him what really happened at Wentworth.

Jamie gives Claire an anniversary present (six months late) of a piece of amber for her to have made into a necklace.
